We recently received an injured Tawny and Barn Owl. The young Tawny had been hit by a car as a result of which one wing was so badly damaged the vets had to remove it; the Barn Owl's injury is less severe in that it has only had half of one wing amputated.
Luckily, the birds get on well together and we have put them in a purpose built aviary deliberately placed where they can see as much as possible and get plenty of light and air even if they can't reach the highest perches. Tawny Owls have an amazing ability to climb and this one is no exception, as he gets older and develops more muscles he is moving well round the aviary. The Barn Owl can flutter effectively and seems to have no difficulty in negotiating all the perches. These birds will remain with us for the rest of their lives.
