We had a very pleasant day at the Northumberland Show on Bank Holiday Monday. The birds, Tawny and Barn Owls, Kestrel and Peregrine Falcon all behaved themselves well and we enjoyed seeing old friends and meeting new people...

In the middle of May Mr & Mrs Dobson from Gateshead brought us a young Tawny Owl chick that they had found on the ground in Chopwell Park. The bird was very hungry and was eating 5 mice a day for the first few days, but is now consuming a more usual 3 – 4 mice a day. It is starting to fly and will shortly be sufficiently active to be introduced to the other Tawny Owls in the wild bird aviary.

The Little Owls, Kestrels, Harris’ Hawks and Redtail Hawks have all lain and hatched chicks this season which is very pleasing. We shall have photographs of some of the young birds in next month’s update.

VENUES: We hope to be at Stanton Gardens on either 22nd or 23rd June (date to be confirmed) which we are looking forward to very much.
